Shakespeare & Company
This is a little bookstore in Paris, at the Quai de Montebello, just next to Notre Dame. There you can mostly find English books, but literature in other languages as well. Shakespeare & Company is not so much attractive for purchasing new books. In Paris, you’ll find those in a fnac or virgin more easily. But its charm lies in its vast range of old books, even antiquarian, I might say. Winding through the narrow passages, piled up with books up to the ceiling – and taking good care not to knock down anything – you may come across works such as from Goethe, written in old German letters.
Here you can take a look at the bookstore and take a tour inside it.
Whenever in Paris, I don’t miss to drop into Shakespeare & Company, even if it’s just to have a look around. And what better could you do on a rainy Paris afternoon?
