FIBA World Championship 2010 Turkey

After the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa this summer it is now basketball’s turn to determine the world’s greatest. 24 countries are coming together in Turkey, which will host the FIBA World Championship 2010 from August 28th to September 12th.

Each group will play the preliminary round in its designated city:

Group A – host city: Kayseri
Teams: Angola, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Jordan, Serbia

Group B – host city: Istanbul
Teams: Brazil, Croatia, Iran, Tunesia, Slovenia, USA

Group C – host city: Ankara
Teams: China, Côte d’Ivoire, Greece, Russia, Puerto Rico, Turkey

Group D – host city: Izmir
Teams: Canada, France, Lebanon, Lithuania, New Zealand, Spain

The finals (as of September 4th) will all be played in Istanbul.

In 2001 the FIBA European Championship was held in Turkey which the hosts finished second after Serbia. Expectations are high that this time will be equally successful. The most confident team entering the championship is probably the last world champion Spain, who have also won last year’s European Championship in Poland and seem currently to be at their best.

Let’s enjoy 80 games with basketball’s greatest. Excitement guaranteed!
